BIO
William A. Brewer III is a founding partner of Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors. Since co-founding the firm in 1984, Mr. Brewer has earned a reputation as one of the most creative and successful lawyers in the United States. Mr. Brewer handles community impact and complex commercial litigation.
Under Mr. Brewer’s direction, Brewer, Attorneys & Counselors specializes in assisting clients faced with matters that involve substantial financial or business exposure, cutting-edge legal issues, or significant public policy questions. The practice is not confined to particular areas of the law, but to the art of advocacy on behalf of its clients. As a result, Mr. Brewer and the firm have gained national attention for their handling of matters in a variety of fields, including commercial litigation, insurance, environmental law, antitrust, intellectual property, hospitality, securities, and more. The firm is organized around a singular goal – to achieve consistently higher than expected outcomes for clients while managing their advocacy needs in all forums, including in courts and arbitration centers, before regulatory bodies, and in legislative arenas.
In order to support the firm’s global practice, Mr. Brewer pioneered the utilization of offshore professionals and paraprofessionals to reduce the costs associated with high-stakes litigation services. He has earned national acclaim for the firm’s in-house Consulting Group, Investigation Unit, and Issues & Crisis Management practice group – all innovations that work in concert in handling high-stakes advocacy.
Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Mr. Brewer received his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from St. John’s University in 1974, followed in 1977 by his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Albany Law School of Union University. Thereafter, Mr. Brewer attended New York University School of Law, where he received a master of laws degree in trade regulation in 1978. Mr. Brewer is admitted to practice in Texas and New York, as well as numerous federal district courts, the Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Federal Circuits. Mr. Brewer is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Brewer is annually recognized in Dallas and New York, and throughout the United States, as one of the top lawyers practicing in the complex commercial litigation arena. In June 2024, Mr. Brewer was named “Litigator of the Week” by The American Lawyer after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously for his client in a case against a former New York state financial regulator.
