COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The firm’s commitment to client advocacy is equaled only by its commitment to the community. Our engagement takes the form of both The Brewer Storefront—the firm’s community service legal affiliate—and The Brewer Foundation, which supports a broad range of community initiatives and educational programs.

STOREFRONT

Community impact litigation

Founded in 1995, the Brewer Storefront provides advocacy to communities which typically do not possess the resources to access sophisticated legal representation. Since its inception, the Storefront has been at the tip of the spear in dozens of high- profile community impact matters. It has proudly established legal precedent that effects long-term change to many in need.

At Brewer, each of our professionals is required to participate in the services provided by the Storefront. All professionals are encouraged to become invested in the causes, clients, and communities the Storefront serves.

 REPRESENTATIONS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The Storefront’s work has captured the attention of legal scholars, public policy advocates, and elected officials working to ensure that all populations are treated with justice, fairness, and equality.

In furtherance of this work, in 2024, the Storefront initiated the Texas Voting Rights Initiative (TVRI), a statewide effort focused on ensuring that Texas school boards operate in compliance with the VRA.

“The Texas Voting Rights Initiative will promote democratic principles and voter equality at an important time,” says William A. Brewer III, chairman of the Storefront. “We believe our political institutions work best when they give all voters an opportunity to elect candidates of their choosing.”

PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

The Storefront has been honored through several community service awards and national recognition, including:

·      The national publication of the Pro Bono Institute, “What’s New In Law Firm Pro Bono”

·      “President’s Award” from the Dallas Hispanic Bar Association

·      Recognition at the Dallas Bar Association’s Annual Pro Bono Awards Celebration

·      “Pro Bono Powerhouse,” American Bar Association

  • Texas Lawyer Litigation Department of the Year

The Texas Lawyer profiled the Storefront – telling the story of a successful eight-year campaign to challenge the unconstitutional immigration ordinances proposed in Farmers Branch, Texas. The advocacy became one of the most high-profile and celebrated campaigns of its kind.

Brewer Foundation Celebrates Tribute to 9/11

The Brewer Foundation helped commission a special art project to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. The artwork is on display at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. A video interview with Foundation Chairman Bill Brewer provides insights into the project – and its vision to inspire reflection and hope for generations to come. Click here to watch the video.

THE BREWER FOUNDATION

a vital part of our mission

Giving back to the communities in which we live is a vital part of our mission.  That’s why we created the Brewer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) private foundation funded by the Brewer firm.

The Foundation supports a range of community initiatives, with a special emphasis on developing, overseeing, and funding a growing array of educational programs.

Among these are the Brewer Foundation Future Leaders program (FLP) and Brewer Foundation/New York University International Public Policy Forum (IPPF) – both under the direction of firm partner William A. Brewer III.

The FLP is an academic and leadership development program that benefits students from Dallas Independent School District and FLP alumni in college. The IPPF is the first and only competition that gives high school students around the globe the opportunity to engage in written and oral debates on issues of public policy.

Over its history, the Foundation has contributed more than $25 million to more than 60 charities in areas such as medicine, the arts, and human rights.

The Foundation has also partnered with leaders in numerous sectors to grow and support its mission, such as Dr. Joseph Benjamin Hardwick (pictured), senior pastor of the Praises of Zion Missionary Baptist Church in South Los Angeles, and Shirley Ison-Newsome, a long-time educational leader and community advocate from Dallas’ Southern Sector.

The Foundation welcomes the support of Brewer friends and community partners who desire to make a positive difference in the community. To contribute, please make donations payable to The Brewer Foundation, c/o CFO Michael McCormack, 1717 Main Street, Ste. 5900, Dallas, Texas  75201.

The International Public Policy Forum is the only contest that gives high school students from around the world the opportunity to engage in written and oral debates on issues of global public policy.
